Nevada is rich in American Indian history, culture, and stories—and whether you are in Northern or Southern Nevada, that history is all around us!
Throughout the year, each chapter has so many wonderful opportunities to bring the American Indian story to life and help others learn about the people, traditions, and history that are such an important part of Nevada.
A great place to start is by acknowledging and supporting Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, October 12th! What a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the history and contributions of Indigenous peoples.
I would love to hear about all the great things your chapter is doing to support the American Indian Committee! Please share your activities, programs, speakers, projects, and ideas. You never know when your chapter’s idea might inspire another chapter across our great state!
And don’t forget to make the American Indian Committee a regular part of your chapter communications. Consider including a monthly “American Indian Minute” in your:
- Chapter meeting minutes
- Meeting programs
- Flyers
- Newsletters
- Chapter communications
There is a wealth of wonderful information available on the DAR website under the American Indian Committee—so take a look and see what sparks your interest!
Let’s make this a year of learning, sharing, celebrating, and discovering the rich American Indian history right here in Nevada!
I can’t wait to hear what your chapters are doing!
Thank you,
Kathleen Evanoff
