July 8, 2026 ~ This morning, members of the Virgin Valley Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Signers Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, proudly joined together at Mesquite City Hall to publicly read the Declaration of Independence in commemoration of its first public reading on July 8, 1776.
A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event happen. We extend our sincere appreciation to the City of Mesquite for setting up the courtyard, the Mesquite Honor Guard for presentation of the colors, Pastor Bob Bruggeman for offering the invocation, and Marie Palmer and the Mesquite United Methodist Handbell Choir for their beautiful, patriotic songs. I would also like to thank the Signers Chapter SAR compatriots Bob Haywood, Gary Watson, and Eric Keyes for suggesting this event, helping to coordinate it, and participating in the reading. ~ Dr. Leigh Roessner, Virgin Valley Chapter Regent
