Historic Preservation Efforts in Nevada
The Nevada State Society participated in the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party by having State Regent Cindy Bell throw tea into the Boston Harbor on December 16, 2023.
Sierra Nevada Chapter, NSDAR, sponsored the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture‘s historic preservation grant application. The foundation received a DAR grant to preserve the historic Donovan Mill.
Nevada Sagebrush Chapter, NSDAR, rededicated the DAR Insignia Grave Markers which were destroyed by vandalism. This was done in honor of Prudence Erminia Hymers Gould and Helen Ione Gould, members and sisters in service.
In July 2021, a tornado-like storm swept through the town of Pahrump. Severe damage was done to the original one-room schoolhouse of Pahrump. The roof suffered the worst of the damage. The Pahrump Springs Chapter, NSDAR, was able to donate funds to help restore the schoolhouse roof.
Three Northern Nevada chapters combined forces on a joint chapter project to clean up and restore Reno’s historic Hillside Cemetery. Sierra Nevada Chapter, NSDAR, Nevada Sagebrush Chapter, NSDAR, and Washoe Zephyr Chapter, NSDAR, regents pose with a plaque placed at the grave site of Honorary State Regent Prudence H. Gould.
